چکیده

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among females in India, as per urban cancer registries. The Annual Age Adjusted Rate (AAR) varies from 30 per 100,000 in Mumbai to 33.4 per 100,000 in Delhi (Manoharan et al., 2010). LABC refers to large breast tumors (>5 cm) associated with either skin/ chest wall involvement or with fixed axillary lymph nodes or spread to ipsilateral internal mammary or supraclavicular nodes. It accounts for 10-20% of all breast cancers in the west and the long term outcome is around 60-70% in different series (Giordano, 2003). In India , LABC accounts for 30-35% cases , with a five year survival of not more than 50% (Chopra, 2001). Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is now the standard of care for locally advanced and inflammatory breast cancer. The use of NACT has several advantages, like treatment of micro metastasis and downsizing the tumor which also helps in increasing rates of breast conservation surgery (Mathew et al., 2007). Weekly taxane–anthracycline combination regimen versus tri-weekly anthracycline-based regimen for the treatment of locally advanced breast cancer: a randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND Extensive studies have confirmed the efficacy of taxanes in combination with anthracycline-based chemotherapy on breast cancer. However, few studies have assessed the efficacy of weekly taxane-anthracycline regimens on locally advanced breast cancer. This study was to compare the efficacy and safety of a weekly taxane-anthracycline regimen with those of tri-weekly anthracycline-based...

Evidence-based use of neoadjuvant taxane in operable and inoperable breast cancer.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NC) is standard therapy for patients with locally advanced breast cancer and is increasingly used for early-stage operable disease. The aim of NC is a pathological complete response (pCR) in the breast and axillary lymph nodes, which is the best predictor of improved outcome and prolonged survival. The taxanes docetaxel and paclitaxel are potent agents in breast cancer...

We report a case of synchronous locally advanced bilateral breast cancer with different pathological responses to neoadjuvant chemotherapy with different biological character. The patient had presented bilateral breast cancer: the left breast cancer was hormone receptor negative, human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) positive, and classified as T4bN1M0, stage IIIb, while the right was...
